Deutsch Amerikanische Freundschaft (DAF)

DAF Biography

Deutsch Amerikanische Freundschaft (DAF) is a German electronic band that formed in 1978 in Düsseldorf, Germany. The band's founders, Gabi Delgado-López and Robert Görl, were heavily influenced by the punk movement and sought to create music that blended elements of punk, electronic, and funk.

DAF released their debut album, "Ein Produkt der Deutsch-Amerikanischen Freundschaft," in 1979. The album's minimalist, industrial sound was a stark contrast to the disco and pop music that was popular at the time. The band's use of German lyrics and political themes also set them apart from their contemporaries.

In the early 1980s, DAF released a string of successful albums, including "Die Kleinen und die Bösen" (1980), "Alles ist gut" (1981), and "Gold und Liebe" (1982). These albums established the band as pioneers of the electronic body music (EBM) genre and solidified their place in the German music scene.

DAF disbanded in 1985, but reformed in 1998 to release a new album, "Für Immer." The band has continued to perform and release new music, and their influence can be heard in the work of many contemporary electronic and industrial music acts.
