SOFT CELL

Soft Cell Biography

Soft Cell is a British synthpop duo formed in 1977 by Marc Almond and David Ball. They released their debut single, "A Man Can Get Lost," in 1981, which was followed by the critically acclaimed album "Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret" in the same year. The album featured the hit single "Tainted Love," which reached number one on the UK charts and became a global hit.

Soft Cell's music was characterized by a fusion of electronic and disco elements, with Almond's distinctive vocals and lyrics that dealt with themes of desire, longing and alienation. Their live performances were known for their theatricality and use of costumes and makeup.

In 1983, the band released their second album, "The Art of Falling Apart," which featured the hit singles "Where Did Our Love Go?" and "Soul Inside." The band's success continued with the release of their third album, "This Last Night in Sodom," in 1984.

Soft Cell's popularity waned in the late 80s, and the band decided to split in 1984. Almond went on to pursue a successful solo career, while Ball worked as a producer and musician.

However, in 2001, Soft Cell reunited for a one-off performance at the "VH1 Storytellers" concert, and in 2018 they announced a reunion tour. The band's music and live performances have been praised for their experimentation, social commentary and powerful imagery.
